…and i know what you mean about bad lighting. i do a lot of my baking at night and get forced into bad lighting.

Thanks, I think that’s the knitter’s curse to just keep buying yarn no matter what. But if I love it I’ll find something to do with it, that’s where Ravelry really helps. I bet you could find something to do with your red tweed in a heartbeat there.

I’m drooling over that yarn. I keep buying yarn with no idea what to make with it. I still have three balls of red tweed yarn I bought in Ireland 9 years ago. SUCH PRETTY YARN!

It was really good, I actually would love to try it for an apple pie sometime. Yum. The soup is this Winter Minestrone recipe from Giada de Laurentiis. It's my second time making it and it did turn out really good, can't wait to have some more tonight.

Wasn’t the dough tasty? I’d never used sour cream in a dough before, but I will now! Sounds like they were a success and I’m glad you were able to give them a try. And that soup looks SO GOOD!

@Melissa: Yeah, I really wanted to do that souffle, but I went on vacation last week and it was just too crazy to fit that in too. Maybe I’ll just do it and do a late edition of TWD. I’m in the same boat with needing to lose weight so really I want only bake twice a month and that’s the minimum for TWD. We’ll see how it goes.

I would say these are maybe not total beginner socks, but not super advanced either, maybe just shy of intermediate. The hardest thing about socks at first is knitting in the round (really finding the method that works best for you) and then the heel stuff seems crazy the first time. There are some really great tutorials and various parts of sock knitting though that helped me learn. I’ll do a post about that later this week.

I’ve had a hard time keeping up with TWD, too, but the souffle pulled me back in. My problem is I’m trying to lose weight (gah), and I really only want to bake one thing a week, max…but I don’t always want to bake the TWD selection. Ah well.

And those are some GREAT looking socks!! What skill level do you need to make those? I used to knit, but I haven’t for years; now I mostly crochet. I bought some gorgeous sock yarn when I visited a wool mill back home, and I really want to make myself a nice pair of socks. I’ve tried to find some crochet patterns, but they’re not as nice as the knitted ones.

The really sad thing is that that’s only part of them. I have another shelf in the bedroom and I’m starting to run out of room on it too!

I did the Good Cook book club and that’s how I got a lot of them. Basically, anytime I get interested in some new aspect of cooking or baking or some new type of cuisine I’m on Amazon making a list of books I want. And I read reviews to see if my expectations will be met. Plus, the Look inside feature on Amazon (and the Good Cook site too) is great and let’s you get an idea of what the book is like.

I have a Perle des Jardins from Barton Springs nursery that appears to be slowly meeting its end. It supposed to be pretty resisant to pests, but it’s really not doing to well. Also, the rosebuds do not open properly if it’s damp, and I bought it in March when we were having lots of rain.

The one thing that survived from our veggie garden last year were the bell peppers. Real troopers. I have a strawberry plant too, and while it keeps growing – with leaves and everything, I am yet to see even the slightest suggestion of a flower/berry.
