I’ve been remiss in posting here. I’ve been remiss in baking for my Tuesday’s With Dorie gig. I promise to get better though. I’m going to try really hard to bake 2 things this month for TWD. I’m also going to try to just write something every few days no matter what. I will not worry if it’s all about knitting. Some of you like knitting, right?
I’m totally obsessed with knitting right now. I go through these phases where I really latch onto things (OCD much?) then gradually it fades and I just have normal feelings towards any one hobby. Right now I’m in a knitting frenzy, or maybe it’s just a yarn stashing frenzy. You be the judge.
I finished a pair of socks for August, so my project a month goal plods along.

Pattern: Pomatomus Socks
Yarn: Dream in Color Smooshy in Dusky Aurora (love!)
Needles: US 1 [2.50 mm] circular (Magic Loop methods)
Notes: I resisted these socks for a long time because I thought they looked bulky and I love lace socks. Glad I finally gave in to this pattern. I really like the look of these, but they are slightly big. I probably should’ve used my other 1′s (2.25 mm) needles or maybe 0′s. I’m hoping a soak and block will help, we’ll see. The pattern is great though and the yarn is fantastic! This color is just amazing.

I’ve had a hard time keeping up with TWD, too, but the souffle pulled me back in. My problem is I’m trying to lose weight (gah), and I really only want to bake one thing a week, max…but I don’t always want to bake the TWD selection. Ah well.
And those are some GREAT looking socks!! What skill level do you need to make those? I used to knit, but I haven’t for years; now I mostly crochet. I bought some gorgeous sock yarn when I visited a wool mill back home, and I really want to make myself a nice pair of socks. I’ve tried to find some crochet patterns, but they’re not as nice as the knitted ones.

@Melissa: Yeah, I really wanted to do that souffle, but I went on vacation last week and it was just too crazy to fit that in too. Maybe I’ll just do it and do a late edition of TWD. I’m in the same boat with needing to lose weight so really I want only bake twice a month and that’s the minimum for TWD. We’ll see how it goes.
I would say these are maybe not total beginner socks, but not super advanced either, maybe just shy of intermediate. The hardest thing about socks at first is knitting in the round (really finding the method that works best for you) and then the heel stuff seems crazy the first time. There are some really great tutorials and various parts of sock knitting though that helped me learn. I’ll do a post about that later this week.
